Frequently Asked Questions
Put simply, ground coffee consists of finely crushed coffee beans whilst instant coffee undergoes a unique process to become soluble granules. Ground coffee will not dissolve in water like instant coffee does. Instant coffee still begins with roasted coffee beans, but these are then brewed into a concentrated liquid and freeze-dried so that they'll easily dissolve in water, no brewing equipment necessary.
Each 90g tin of instant coffee contains 36 servings. We recommend using 1 teaspoon (2.5g) per cup.
Our instant coffee granules dissolve smoothly in hot or cold water, so you don't need to heat your water to make an iced coffee. Simply stir 1 teaspoon (2.5g) of instant coffee into cold water, add ice, personalise it with your choice of milk, sugar, or syrups, and you have a café-worthy iced coffee that's ready in an instant.
Our regular Barista Blend Instant Coffee contains 50mg caffeine per 2.5g serving.
Our decaf Barista Blend Instant Coffee contains 7.5mg caffeine per 2.5g serving.

We’ve grown a lot since our first roastery in Shoreditch, but every day our team in Bermondsey still expertly roasts high-quality coffee beans by hand. We carefully roast our beans in a way that enhances their natural flavour characteristics, and our stringent QC ensures we’re consistently hitting our roast curves and flavour goals, making a pretty exceptional cup of coffee.
We partner with coffee growers who go above and beyond to ensure their beans are of the highest quality. From scrupulous tree pruning and harvesting, to milling, drying, and shipping, the farmers, exporters, and importers we work with use their expertise to get the absolute best from their produce.
The result of all this is a range of coffees that we’re really proud of. Each one exhibits a unique flavour profile, representing the hard work and dedication of people from the farm to our roastery. Hopefully, that’s what you’ll notice with every Grind brew you enjoy at home, on a plane, or in one of our cafés.
Most instant coffees are made using low-quality Robusta beans that are mass-farmed, mass-roasted, and quickly freeze-dried, resulting in the bitter, harsh, and sour flavour that instant coffee is often associated with.
Grind instant is different because we've set out to make the best instant coffee you can find: it's crafted using 100% speciality-grade Arabica beans, which we ethically source from sustainable farms and expertly roast before slowly and carefully freeze-drying into soluble granules. These are the same beans we use for our speciality whole bean, ground, and coffee pod blends. We then enrich the granules with 15% microground Arabica beans, which gives our instant coffee a fuller body, smoother texture, and richer flavour profile.
Both our instant blends also mix hot or cold, so you can use them to make all of your favourite iced coffees, too. There aren't many other instant coffees that can say the same.
